Recent history

Emmanuel Youth football teams started in the summer of 1997. For years Emmanuel kids and teenagers had played football on the green in front of the church but never anything serious. Then, a few adults in the church decided to organise a 7-a-side football tournament within the church, teams being mixed of adults and kids. Not surprisingly a team containing three of the current adults team won, but everyone enjoyed it! Taking this and the obvious enthusiasm from the younger members of the church (including us!) Ted Parton and John Schad, two adults from the church along with Tom Day, a 16 year old at the time decided it would be good to take that a step further. One Sunday morning, completely out of the blue, it was announced that there would be a meeting upstairs in the church centre after the service for any of the younger people interested in playing football more seriously, we were told the plans, and the teams were born.

The first year we played only Under 11 and Under 16 matches, but as people are always keen to help out with something that is going well, the second year saw more support from the adults and thus four two teams became four, Under 10, 13, 15 and 18. However, the numbers of opposition have sadly decreased so now we play any age groups we can, but seeing as we have people from all ages right across the board we can cope with that.

Just about everyone who plays with us enjoys it, even if they don't come back, to the point where now we have too many players! This is good though because it means the coaches can encourage people to get involved with the church by not allowing non-attenders to play. It does however mean that some people who come week in, week out, get annoyed with not being picked, but this can't be helped.

I don't want to ramble for ages, but I will say that if you're out there and want a team to play, we are willing to play almost anyone. We have played against teams from youth clubs, other churches, scout patrols, boys brigade's etc, and some of our rivals have even played Sunday morning teams (though not on a Sunday). So, if you are interested, E-mail John Schad via the Church office!

Loughborough & District Charity Cup

"The Loughborough & District Charity Cup Association was formed on April 16th 1898 ... although there were a number of local 'giants' among the first entrants it was to be Loughborough Emmanuel FC who would have their name engraved on the virgin base, with a 2-0 victory over Quorn Havelock ..."

LEFC were also finalists in 1901 and 1902.

The trophy base has been replaced at some time in its history, and the location of the base with LEFC's name on it is not known.
